Welcome to my corner of the Internet! It is so lovely to have you here. On this blog, we will mainly be exploring all things ELA – a particular passion of mine.
The beginnings of Ellie’s Tales
Ellie’s Tales for Learning was born when my first child was born! I loved creating resources while the baby napped. It wasn’t hard to think of what to create. I’d been passionate about making reading lessons fun since I first started teaching (over 16 years ago now). I noticed how excited the students got over their mathematics lessons and thought to myself, “Why don’t they feel the same about reading?”
So why do they love maths?
- It’s fast paced: they work through the questions fairly quickly
- There’s a right and a wrong answer
- It’s a challenge
- It’s clear what they have to do
- It’s varied – no lesson is the same
- They can see how they are doing easily
- They feel a sense of achievement when they get things right
What inspires my resources?
You can see where I’m going with this. I wanted the same for reading. I wanted my resources to be fun challenges that allowed them to improve their reading skills whilst enjoying themselves. I wanted time to fly for them in their reading lessons. This is what I strive for and this is what we will be exploring on this blog.
These mystery pictures are an example of a more ‘mathsy’ approach to reading comprehension. The students love seeing their progress as they answer the questions, whilst still improving their reading comprehension skills.
Join me on my journey!
I hope you stick around and join me on my quest to make ELA lessons fun!
